Ossia keeps your music on your tablet. There is no account, no advertising and no tracking. The only thing the app ever sends is an error report, and only if you agree.

Who is responsible

Ossia is made by a small independent team. If you have questions about your data, write to hello@ossiapiano.com.

What stays on your tablet

Your pieces, the PDF files you import, your fingering and marks, practice rounds, folders and settings are stored on your tablet only. Ossia reads PDFs on the tablet itself; no file is uploaded to us or anyone else.

A backup is a file you save where you choose. We never see it.

Error reports, only if you agree

When you first start Ossia, it asks whether it may send error reports. If you say yes, Ossia sends a report when something goes wrong. A report contains:

  • the error and the place in the app’s code where it happened
  • the steps before it: which screen was open, which mode, which kind of edit (such as “note moved up”)
  • the app version, the Android version, the tablet model, the language, the screen size and how much memory was free

A report never contains your music, titles, composer names, file names or folder paths: Ossia takes them out before the report leaves the tablet. Automatic error reports carry no picture of the screen.

Problem reports you write yourself

Under Settings → About, “Report a problem” sends what you write, together with the steps before it. If you leave the box ticked, a picture of the screen goes along. That picture can show the music that was open, so untick the box if you would rather not send it.

Where reports go and how long they are kept

Reports go to our own error server, errors.ossiapiano.com. It runs GlitchTip, an open-source error tracker, on servers we rent from DigitalOcean in Frankfurt, Germany. Only we can read the reports. We use them to find and fix errors, and for nothing else. We do not sell or share them.

Reports are deleted automatically after 90 days.

Like any server, ours sees the internet address of the connection a report comes from. Ossia does not add it to the report, and we do not use it to find out who you are.

Switching reports off

You can change your answer at any time under Settings → About → Send error reports. When you switch it off, Ossia stops sending at once.

Reports carry no name, so we cannot look up yours by itself. If you want reports deleted, write to hello@ossiapiano.com and tell us roughly when they were sent and which tablet you use.

What Ossia may access on the tablet

Ossia opens only the files you choose, and a MIDI keyboard when you connect one over USB. It uses the internet only to send error reports.

Your rights

Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection and, where it applies, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, you can ask what data we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, and object to its use. Write to hello@ossiapiano.com. You can also complain to the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or to the data protection authority where you live.

Changes

If Ossia starts doing something new with data, we update this page first. The date at the top shows the last change.
